The making of a Haiku.
A haiku is a traditional form of Japanese poetry consisting of three lines. In English, haiku are often written in a 5-7-5 syllable pattern, with the first line containing five syllables, the second line containing seven syllables, and the third line containing five syllables. Haiku often focus on nature and the changing seasons and aim to capture a single, specific moment or image in a brief and concise way.
The purpose of this blog is to create a haiku every day for 2024 and invite individuals and companies to contribute to the overall output. At the end of the year we will be awarding a prize for the best haiku, judged by the community and all the haiku will be bound and published in an album to represent 2023. We will also be offering to compose your very own haiku and bring a new element to your company's branding. Why not add to your social media strategy and sign up to 7th Wave. We will create a "unique" Haiku on a weekly, monthly, quarterly or annual basis. This will be emailed to you when complete. They will reflect your business, promotional events, successful sales or significant accomplishments during the year. Not only providing a valued asset but a novel way of promoting your company. A Win-Win situation.😀 Search for a favourite keyword and checkout the haiku!
Take a look at the unique Destination Run initiative, a project coming out of the 2020 COVID lockdown. Using the what3words navigation tool as a catalyst to describe favourite places around Sheffield in the UK, haiku were written by participants and published in a keep-sake volume for posterity.

The haiku presents the world in a concise manner, being objective and presenting contrasting styles to convey a overall image of your subject. We are relating this to unique businesses locally, in the UK and ultimately worldwide.

There's a lot more to a Haiku than the 5-7-5 rule. The rules are there as a guide, what you are looking to do is transcend the art of writing and bring the true feeling of your thoughts to the written form. The haiku takes in the seasons, setting the haiku in a timeframe and then contrasts this with "sharp or cutting" words to create a sense of awe or wonder.... the best Haiku push boundaries, express a depth to the subject and elevate beyond the words themselves.
